Her family of origin had long served in India and six children were borne there - all except for her youngest brother. After her father’s death in 1849 her mother appears to have settled in the Isle of Man, together with her family, some of whom married into Isle of Man families. With her India connections, it is easy to see how she and Claudius would have connections. They subsequently returned to India and their daughter Margaret was borne and raised there.
