We do have the copy of Car’s WWII war service record from the Red Cross showing she provided occupational therapy to soldiers through out the war at Amersham hospital and know that, according to her obituary she was commissioned by the MoD to draw local windmills! However we don’t really know why this was. As well as their continuing involvement with the Red Cross they were extremely active in the Chiltern Arts and Handicraft Club with Josephine president from 1941 until her death in 1945 and then Car president from 1955 but the archive there hasn’t given me any new information. Also they were both Parish Councillors, Josephine from 1934 and Car later. They also met the Queen in 1941.
